A Plumber in Herefordshire was prosecuted after Hereford Trading Standards Team found that he was falsely claiming to be on the Gas Safe Register when he was not, putting members of the public at risk.

The man, pled guilty to charges under the Fraud Act, Theft Act and the Unfair Trading Regulations. It was found that he carried out the work between 2018 and 2023 and worked on domestic gas cookers, hobs, boilers, fires and more.

Taking the actions of the man extremely seriously the Magistrates at Hereford Magistrates Court sentenced him to a four month prison sentence which was suspended and he also had to pay compensation to eight of his customers.

In one instance, a boiler that the man installed had to be condemned by Gas Safe and the customer had to pay out more money to make it safe again. The Gas Safe certificate for the boiler that the man had issued was fake and used an expired Gas Safe number.

It is important that you know the work you need completing is done by a fully qualified and competent installer. You can check the Gas Safe Register for free here and be assured that your Plumber is registered.
