repair
The technical meaning of maintenance involves functional checks, servicing, repairing or replacing of necessary devices, equipment, machinery, building infrastructure, and supporting utilities in industrial, business, and residential installations. Over time, this has come to include multiple wordings that describe various cost-effective practices to keep equipment operational; these activities occur either before or after a failure.
Vaillant Ecotec Plus 832 boiler is 13 years old, 4 of which since we've been living there, started to play up in last couple of months. An engineer with very good reviews came round and says it will cost 700+VAT for 'replacement expansion vessel, pressure relief valve and diverter valve on...

Hi, looking for some advice.
We have had an issue with our boiler of late and recently had a 3 port actuator replaced.
What’s happening now is when we turn the water and heating on by the control panel the boiler cuts out after a couple of minutes. We opened the valve of the actuator and now...
Hi, access is good here, from my experience retrofitting connections to stack at high level (inaccessible via ladder) is just a bad idea.
Would the only reliable way be to fit a boss socket? Leave the tee in or go in the wall and put a new tee in?
(leak is on the 1 1/2" connection to 4")
Cheers!
Hi All
After having pooling water on my drive, I dug down around to find:
Black pipe poly/plastic dug 450mm deep spraying water at mains pressure from small hole/crack
The outside of pipe (measured with veneer caliper) at 23.5mm
Pipe Runs under drive, along side of property and looks to go...
Hello, hoping someone can advise me. My boiler stopped working - no hot water or central heating. Called out a company who came and assessed the problem as being that the hot water element in the immersion tank needed replacing. (I don't know exactly what it is called as the company has still...

I have been given a quote to fix a noisy tap.
Apparently they have to “replace breech to main shower” — which I understand to mean the thing one level behind any normal work on a tap. (“It is worn down and still has a small crack in it.”)
“This will have to be done through the Gyprock wall...

Morning all,
I recently changed the washers on my kitchen mixer tap due to it dripping, I reseated it using a tool but it's still dripping. I have had another go today and on closer inspection of the seat it appears to have a hairline crack. Can this be repaired or do I change them completely...
Hi all, a recent CCTV survey has shown 5-6 areas of large joint displacement along an area of drain 5 meters in length. One company has said to do individual patch repairs. The other has said to reline that whole section. The 5 meter area also includes a 90 degrees bend around a corner of the...
After balancing the flows, one of these blighters has started to drip very slowly from under the red cap. It feels loose to turn, so I suspect the seal around the spindle is to blame. It won't be 'worn' as such, as they don't get fiddled with for years, but this tiny adjustment was seemingly...
I'll start this by saying I'm hoping to sort this by diy / minimal professional help as I'm a very tight budget!
I've got a walk-in shower in a wet room. The shower has a tiled-over former with an additional ring of tiles around it. When the shower's in use, a drip comes through into the room...
Hi. I'm having some issues with my boiler / central heating and have enlisted a local 'Combi Heating Specialist' to sort it out but he seems to be making things worse. I really need another expert's opinion, to put my mind at rest, or help me make the decision to stop using his services.

Upon investigation, believe our external stopcock, which is located within our boundary, is leaking as the chamber is...
Hi all,
I’ve just noted this dent in my shower tray. I think it’s stone resin I’m not too concerned about the aesthetic but worried it may cause a leak and go onto the ceiling on the ground floor (as the shower is on the 1st floor)
I know there are loads of repair kits out there and I’m...
