Acceptability is the characteristic of a thing being subject to acceptance for some purpose. A thing is acceptable if it is sufficient to serve the purpose for which it is provided, even if it is far less usable for this purpose than the ideal example. A thing is unacceptable (or has the characteristic of unacceptability) if it deviates so far from the ideal that it is no longer sufficient to serve the desired purpose, or if it goes against that purpose.
Acceptability is an amorphous concept, being both highly subjective and circumstantial; a thing may be acceptable to one evaluator and unacceptable to another, or unacceptable for one purpose but acceptable for another. Furthermore, acceptability is not necessarily a logical or consistent exercise. A thing may be sufficient to serve a particular purpose but in the subjective view of the decision maker be unacceptable for that purpose.: 6 Philosopher Alex Michalos writes that "[t]he concept of acceptability is as ambiguous and troublesome as probability, confirmation, belief, justice, etc.", and assigns two potential meanings to the term with respect to the possible acceptability of hypotheses. Acceptability is a fundamental concept in numerous fields, including economics, medicine, linguistics, and biometrics.
Hi, we've had our central heating system put back into the ground after all the pipework being in the attic. I don't know anything about plumbing so I paid up when the job was finished (£1000) my husband and father in law came home and were not happy with the pipework! The pipes are way above...
Had a collapsed/cracked collar on the 90deg angled piece that my soil pipe sits in which is leaking water so has needed replacing.
Access has been through the outside wall to inside as the soil pipe is internal and boxed in.
Now I was expecting the plumber to fit a ‘rest bend’ but a 90 degree...
Hey guys, recently had a bit of a dispute over a quote asking me to break it down etc saying they can buy this from X for Y.. how much is labour/materials.. shockingly it was from friends so it's taken its toll on me mentally if I'm honest.. I'm don't think I'm outrageously pricey but I do a...
hi all,
we're just finishing up having a loft conversion done. Plumbing was done a couple of weeks ago but only just had a proper look in the eaves and now I'm questioning whether the job was acceptable or not - some of the other work done on the project has been poor!
Should the pipes be...
Hello, my question is will this be acceptable.
Here I have 2 rooms beside each other but need a toilet in both on the ground floor before 150mm insulation and 75mm screed get installed. One room is a bathroom, the other an ensuite. The toilet in the left will have a 90 bend under it and will be...
We had a leak from our boiler which meant I had to take up the flooring. This was a bathroom, but we want a utility room, so will be putting in the washing machine. I don't know if these pipes are accetable though? We need the water feed (on the left) and the pipe for the waste (you can see on...
Hi
I had a new boiler installed and wondered if you think this is acceptable workmanship.
Looks like they started to drill a hole at the front and then had to move down.
Thanks for your input.
as the tilte says, is the boiler above the ink acceptable or not?
Apparently a customer of mine got told that the boiler can’t be fitted above the sink? She asked me to give her a quote for a replacement of the boiler.
What’s your thoughts?
Regards
Ron
Hi. Still chasing our house builders regarding snagging. We have had a leak through the attic from condensation from the soil pipe. Can anyone tell me if this is acceptable workmanship? The house is one year old. Duct tape holding it together!
Hello - would appreciate some advice - British Gas have just installed a new boiler.
I have complained about the fitment of the Spirotech filter - see images.
It's physically jammed in between the cupboard and boiler casing.
1 - Do you think this is acceptable?
2 - Is it true the feed/return...

Just had plumber come round to take heating pipes down from upstairs down to new radiator in the living room. Couple of things:
1. He said the conduit would look neat just like on the original work done in the house - I don't think it does.
2. He's taken quite a large chunk out of one of the...
Hi, we have just moved into a new house and we are not too sure who is responsible for our poor water pressure/flow or whether we have grounds to complain at all, so some help would be greatly appreciated.
The developers are still on site, but are now building houses a fair distance from us. we...
Apologies if this topic has been bought up before. Only thread I could see was from back in 2010 so I'm sure times have changed a little...
What are you guys thinking is an acceptable mark up on general plumbing parts?

Hi there, I have a 50's ex council maisonette with cast iron stack. Customer wants toilet moved from ground floor to first floor. It's not possible to cut and tee into the stack and replace everything above the toilet in plastic as there is no access to the roof etc. I was thinking instead I'd...
Just had this work done. I'm concerned about the longevity of the joints in this speedfit installation. Please comment on the pics.

Hi all
does any one know the acceptable cpa levels for a boiler. I've just done a course at gas logic and the book that I got from them says if the ratio of co/co2 is above 0.008 then this should be investigated as it is not burning as it should.
fairly simple stuff but I had a boiler today...
